History of the GED…Much Older Than you Think!
Sometimes when people say or hear the word GED, we all pretty much assume that this test was created not too long ago. We also might have thought that this test was created only for busy full-time mothers or for people who did not get the opportunity to go to high school. It turns out that this is NOT the case. The GED (General Educational Development) has deeper historical roots than you would think. The GED test was created in 1942 for war veterans to receive the qualifications necessary to graduate high school. Almost 30 years ago, the GED certification was just as important as it is today for the purpose of getting more job opportunities and applying for college programs.
